What Type Of Heat Transfer Press Do I Need? [2008-08-21]

A heat press is the machine that presses a transfer onto an imprintable substrate. Using high temperatures and heavy pressures for a certain amount of time, the transfer is permanently embedded into the product.

Heat presses are recommended for professional and satisfying results simply because standard laminating devices and home hand irons can not get even near the temperatures required for a reliable transfer. Standard transfers require anywhere from 375? to 425? F demand serious force in pressing often from 40-80 psi. These temperatures and pressures are simply not possible with other heated devices.

BestSublimation recommends Best New Heat Presses because they are simply the best. BestNew Heat Presses have been the backbone of literally thousands upon thousands of business over the past 4 decades, providing a reliable workhorse of a product that stands up to the demands of imprinting business, manufacturing and personal use.

What is Sublimation (Dye Sublimation Transfer)? [2008-08-21]

Dye Sublimation Transfer is a process where you use an image that has been created digitally either by scanning a photograph or downloading a picture taken with your digital camera or an image created in a piece of imaging software like Adobe Photoshop or CorelDRAW and then printing this image with an printer using special inks called sublimation inks onto paper. Once the image is on the paper you place it under a heat transfer press on top of your substrate and heat the paper until the inks turn to a gas and transfer the image onto the item you are making.

What is Dye Sublimation Printing &Why Do I Need It? [2008-08-21]

If you want to print on mugs, plates and other popular hard surface items then Dye Sublimation printing is the answer!

Dye Sublimation, as a process is really very simple. It is the method of applying an image to specially coated ceramics, metals and polyester cloth, using three main ingredients: sublimation ink, heat and pressure.

Sublimation ink is unique in its ability to convert from a solid to a gas without going through a liquid form. (Just like dry ice.) The conversion is initiated by heat and controlled with pressure and time. Hard items such as ceramic, fiber board, metals, etc. requires a special coating to accept the sublimation inks. You must purchase the mugs, tiles, metals, etc. with the coating already on them, it is not something you can coat yourself. We carry a full line of these sublimatable blanks. When you apply to 100% polyester (ie: our mouse pads and puzzles) you do not need any coating, it is applied directly to the 100% polyester fabric.

You can purchase dye sublimation inks for certain printer (only) desk top ink jet printers (ie: C82, C84, C86, C88, 1280, 3000, 4000, 4800 & 7600) to do sublimation printing. The printer is not sold directly from printer with these sublimation inks. We do offer some of these printer models. The sublimation inks are something you would need to buy from a company such as ours and the heat transfer paper that you would print these inks on we also supply. The heat transfer paper for sublimation printing does not have a coating on them. This paper has a special finish on the surface so the inks do not soak into the paper. After you print the transfer paper it is then placed on the product to be applied with a heat press.

PLEASE NOTE: You can switch your printer back to using regular inks at any time. However, it is not practical to switch back and forth. If you are setting up a Sublimation Printing System do not expect to use the same printer for other purposes.

Using Transfers VS. Direct Printed Garments [2008-08-21]

With the improvements in technology used to produce transfers, it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between a garment printed directly with a screen printing press and one printed using an iron-on transfer. In most cases, the iron-on transfer has a soft feel (or hand as we say in the industry) and is as durable.

The advantage to using transfers lies in your ability to run your business with limited inventory. Because you don’t typically print the shirt until it’s sold, you can offer hundreds (even thousands) of designs to your customers just by keeping minimal stock of the transfers which cost considerably less than a pre-printed shirt.

Imagine if you wanted to offer 300 different shirts to your customers. If you carried pre-printed garments, you would have to inventory each design in a minimum of four sizes and keep on hand at least 2-3 pieces of every size. That amounts to inventorying over 3600 shirts. For most small business, this is not realistic. To carry the same 300 designs using transfers you would only have to inventory four sizes of blank garments and 2-3 pieces of each design. This is a more realistic scenario for most small business owners.

To make good photo crystal, you’d better pay attention on following matters.

1.Please make sue that you are in a ventilated and clean environment. Cause crystal is transparent, you cannot make it dirty. Moreover, If the environment is too hot, the glue is easily dry which will affect the photo crystal making.

2.Make the crystal surface clean and dry. Or it will affect the result.

3.Don’t touch the film with image in case of making it dirty and blurring the image..

4.When you dip the glue on to the crystal surface, please try to make the glue spring on the core of the surface and then use a flat card to make the glue even over the surface. Notice: See clearly to make sure that there is no bubble. If there is bubble, please press the card to make the glue even. Especially when you sprinkle the 8989 glue, you should take more care to make the glue even in case of any bubble.

5.Don’t make the glue sprinkled on the crystal surface exposed to air long. After you sprinkle glue onto the crystal surface, immediately use the film(without membrance) to cover it and use flat card to flatten the surface.

For beginners, it is unavoidable to meet some problems. Frequent practice is needed to make beautiful and perfect photo crystals.

What Is A Heat Transfer? [2008-08-21]

A transfer is made up of a carrier paper and inks. When heated to a certain temperature and pressed with a significant amount of pressure for a certain amount of time, the transfer inks are passed over to the imprintable material. Some inks are adhered and embedded to the surface of the material, while others (namely, sublimation) permeate the coating of the material.

Transfers can be heat pressed onto fabrics (both natural and synthetic) using standard plastisol supplier transfers, color copier, or thermal wax & ink-jet computer transfer paper. Heat transfers can also be printed onto mugs, plates, tiles, mousepads, ceramics, metals, glass and wood. For these substrates, sublimation transfers are used. The important factor when heat pressing with sublimation transfers onto non-natural fabric substrates is to be sure the material has the proper polyester synthetic coating, as well as a UV coating if protection from the sun and other rays is an issue. For this reason it is best to get the materials pre-coated from a supplier.
