What is CD-R? [2009-02-12]
CD-R Media refer to CD ROM Recordable/CD-ROM ReWritable. It can be used to record data or audio for later play back in CD players or computers. The capacity is 700MB or around 80 minutes. CD-R could only be used once while CDRW could have repeat uses.
good news about CD-R media that (at the moment) you can record them quicker than DVD-R media. At their maximum speed of 52x, you can burn a CD in 90 seconds. So if speed is a value to you, and you don’t mind the 700MB/80min of disc capacity, burn your music, video, and data in CD-R discs. A regular CD Rom will not be able to record on CD-R. You will need a CD recorder. Most DVD recorders can burnCD-R media at 52x.
CD-Rs may be old school with the advent of DVD media, but for burning audio, it’s still the media of choice, in that it can play in the modern media players and the old CD players.
