The vaccine is prepared with a live attenuated strain 17D of yellow fever virus grown in chick embryos. After incubation, the harvested embryos are ground. The virus supernatant is obtained by centrifugation of the ground embryos and then lyophilized to make the vaccine. The freeze-dried vaccine looks like a pinkish crisp cake. After reconstitution it turns into a turbid liquid in pinkish color.
