In a closed container, plant often become root-round. The breathable fabric in a pocket system allows the roots to sense they've reached the limits of their growing medium, at which point they stop growing. This natural process, known as air pruning, means roots are healthier than in a contained system. Unlike other system, whose small compartments limit the type of plants that can be grown successfully, just about any plant will work in a pocket system. Just make sure a plant's size is in proportion to the size of the pocket. The more soil the pocket holds, the bigger the plant will support.
