Solar collector is a technical device which uses the energy from the sun for heating water. The amount of fossil energy normally necessary for heating water is reduced, thus the emission of green house gasses is reduced. By using a solar water heater the environment is spared.

Although different types of solar water heater exist, they all are based on the same basic principle. A black body absorbs the daylight and passes the absorbed heat on a liquid (in a storage tank).
