Indications and Uses:

IVY Special Extract alleviates bronchitis and helps patients with asthma. Bronchitis and asthma are different diseases, but they have one feature in common-in both conditions the mucous membranes of the airways produce large amounts of phlegm or mucus and this hinders breathing. If the bronchi are narrowed further still by inflammation the patient may even become short of breath. Scientific investigations have shown that a special extract from IVY leaves can give definite relief from such symptoms, without any risk of the adverse side effects which may be associated with certain therapeutic agents of chemical origin. In a large scale clinical trial comprising 99 adults between 25 and 70 years of age with acute or chronic bronchitis the efficacy of IVY extract was compared under double-blind conditions with that of Ambroxol. The phytopharmaceutical was just as effective as the chemical drug.

IVY extract is suitable for use in children. Because it loosens the phlegm and also relaxes the bronchi, it offers a logical adjuvant treatment for children with asthmatic complaints. Scientists treated 24 children with asthma between the ages of 4 and 12 years who were undergoing inpatient treatment in the High Altitude Clinic. The children were given either IVY Drops or an ineffective sham medicine (placebo) twice daily. Outcome: After only three days' treatment the lung function test readings in the children treated with IVY showed definite improvement, whereas in the other children of the same age-the placebo group-they remained practically unchanged. The difference in efficacy between the medicine and the placebo was statistically significant.
