For generations the huayao dais women of china, who are the kinsmen of dais, have wrapped themselves in hand-loomed scarves created from cotton dyed the colors of the altiplano. This lightweight cotton shawls and scarves are the same indigenous garment, created in an artisan workshop in yunnan using a traditional palette of colored stripes, so each scarf takes more than two days to do. By tradition, the artisans recycle every last bit of thread left on the end of a spindle. Colors may vary. Woven on hand looms in yunan.
