Is of an atomic number 21 and atomic weight 44.95591. Sc is a member of the rare earth element family.
Metal Sc has a silver-white color and is flexible. Its melting point is 1541 degree centigrade and its boiling point is 2, 831. The density of metal scandium is 2.989 g/cm3. It has hexagonal dense cumulus (below 1335 degree centigrade) and bbc crystal structure.
Sc can be used mainly:
1. In production of high photic effect metallic halogen lights;
2. Its compounds as an activator for organic synthesis;
3. Preventing break of Zirconium oxide chinaware in crystal transit by adding Scandium oxides;
4. In Aluminum alloys which can lead to a supernaturally alloying function, increases obviously in the re-crystallization point by 150-200 degree centigrade, high temperature strength, structure stability, welding capability and corrosion resistance of the Aluminum alloys. Sc-Al alloy can also prevent brittleness often occurred for the Aluminum alloy in longtime high temperature run.
