Silicon carbide heating element is a kind of non-metal high temperature electric heating element. It is made of selected fine quality green silicon carbide as main material, which is made into blank, silicided under high temperature and recrystallized. Compared with metal electric heating element, this kind of element is characterized by high applied temperature, anti- oxidization, anti-corrosion, long service life, little deformation, easy installation and maintaince. Therefore, it is widely used in various high temperature electric furnaces and other electric heating devices, such as in the industries of electron, magnetic materials, powder metallurgy, ceramic, glass, metallurgy and machinery, etc.
SiC heating element has rather large specific resistance. When it is heated in air and the surface temperature of the heat-generating part reaches 1100 centigrade degree, Its resistance rate is 0.0735~0.168 Ohm*cm2/cm. It’s resistance value changes with the temperature rises. Room-temperature below 800 centigrade degree is negative value, over 800 centigrade degree is positive value nature curve. SiC heating element has the property of good chemical stabilization, acid-resistance, but it is attacked by alkali and the oxidate of alkali-earth metal under certain temperature conditions. Under high temperature, it is also attacked and oxidized by steam, hydrogen, halogen, sulphur, etc.
