All alumina raw materials in Sinteralum are imported from Australia, and in order to prepare qualified raw materials for milling process, EDX4500 fluorescence spectrometer is used to determine content of micro powders, four-layer sieves are used to determine raw material PSD. Exceptional quality control over raw materials contributes a lot to premium product quality. Tabular alumina produced by Wanbang is superior in purity, density, strength, thermal shock resistance, corrosion resistance, insulation, etc., and widely used in high performance refractory materials for many applications in steel, petrochemistry, electronics, ceramics, high temperature vessels, abrasives, etc.

Based on our business conscience and required by our high standards, ceramic-lined ball mills with ceramic grinding media, instead of steel balls, are employed to avoid any iron contamination, providing firm guarantee on high quality final products for our customers. Particle size of the ground alumina from ball mills is -45micron (-325 mesh), with a typical D50 of 2 - 5 microns. In this way, qualified raw materials can be produced for the next process.

Normal process for ball forming is to use a two-step approach to form "green balls". The first step is to generate seed balls, of which seed grains are tabular alumina with typical value 1-3mm. The second step occurs in green ball forming machine, where typical value of qualified green balls is 23-25mm. In Wanbang, rotary gate ball forming machines are adopted, in which qualified green balls are sent to next procedure, and unqualified ones returned for secondary forming. Such ball forming technology is of leading position and quality of the formed balls has direct influence on sintering in high temperature shaft kiln. From this concern, strict production control is undertaken and updated management concepts, I. E. SPC, Six Sigma, etc. Are being applied.

Designed process within high temperature shaft kiln starts from dried green balls, which are directly brought and stored in the hopper above the dryer. In high temperature shaft kiln, dried green balls are exposed by direct flame impingement to temperatures in the 1850º C to 1950º C range, as the balls flow by gravity downwards from the top of the kiln. Sintered alumina balls are gradually cooled down by cold air blown from bottom of the high temperature shaft kiln. The shaft kiln is lined with alumina based refractory bricks and other base linings, with clean natural gas as fuel. Annual net output for each shaft kiln/ dryer is 30, 000t, and 50, 000t for two production lines in total.

Advanced Barmac vertical shaft impact crushers with large production capacity, high efficiency and homogenized particle size distribution are employed. Crushed tabular alumina is further screened through two five-layer sieves, aiming for homogenized PSD and avoiding segregation
