Application of CBN Inserts in Gear Finishing
1.Gear Processing Introduction
The cutting tool is applied to a gear machining, Mainly refers to hard turning after hot (that is, grinding instead of turning). The turning process is used to achieve the effect of hardened steel finishing. The heat-treated gear can obtain different hardness and toughness. Gear hardness after heat treatment is generally above 55 HRC. Because of the structural characteristics of gears, most of them have intermittent cutting, and because of the application characteristics of gears, gear machining requires higher surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Therefore, the quality of the tool is extremely important for the processing of gears.
2.Selection of Gear Machining Tool
After the heat treatment of the gear, the hardness is increased, but the gear after the heat treatment is deformed, so the deformation is eliminated by grinding or turning. Due to the high hardness of the heat-treated gears, the carbide inserts no longer meet the production requirements.With the development of super-hard materials, ceramic inserts and CBN inserts have allowed hard turning to replace expensive grinding processes. The continuous hard cutting end face technology in gear processing is becoming more and more perfect, and how to carry out intermittent cutting, deep hole processing, and how to improve the impact toughness of the tool is still a part that cannot be ignored in the gear processing.
