PRODUCT SUMMARY
The FIMYTM Total Hardness (TH) Test Kit quickly and accurately measures total hardness levels in water - essential vital minerals of calcium and magnesium for creatures in water. Consequences of low TH levels include fish malnutrition and death. The FIMYTM TH Test Kit will help you catch and correct TH before it drops to unsafe levels, testing levels from 0 up to 3000 ppm (as calcium carbonate). For water with levels over 3000 ppm, a dilution with pure water before testing is recommended.

RECOMMENDED TH LEVELS
The levels for water:
Soft water: 0~75 ppm
Medium hard: 75~150ppm
Hard water: 150~300ppm,
Super hard: 300+ ppm.
Hardness requirements in different occasions vary. For daily use, the recommended TH level is 100~400mg/L.
TH levels lower than 75 ppm is usually unacceptable for fish pool in most cases.
 
TOTAL HARDNESS TEST DIRECTIONS            
 
1. Fill a clean test tube with about 5 ml of water to be tested.
2. Add 8 drops of Total Hardness Test Solution 2 and 1 spoonful of Total Hardness Test Mixture 3 with the little spoon enclosed.
3. Cap the test tube and shake tube several times to mix solution which ought to be in purple red color now.
4. Add Total Hardness Test Solution 1 drop by drop and shake tube at the same time, count the number of drops added till the solution turns blue suddenly.
5. The total hardness of water is equal to 50 times the drops added, as ppm of calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
6. If the solution does not turn blue within 60 drops of Total Hardness Test Solution 1, it suggests that the water is unsuitable for direct test. A dilution with pure water is needed.
7. Rinse the test tube with clean water after use.
 
TOTAL HARDNESS                   
 
Total hardness (TH) is a measurement of the mineral content in a water sample. Total hardness can be equivalent to the total calcium and magnesium hardness. There are several measuring units for water hardness. Their conversion relations are given below.
