Plastic geogrid is a polymer mesh material with square or rectangular shapes formed by stretching, which can be either unidirectional or biaxial depending on the direction of stretching during manufacturing. It is punched on polymer sheets (mostly made of polypropylene or high-density polyethylene) that have been extruded, and then subjected to directional stretching under heating conditions. Unidirectional stretching grids are only made by stretching along the length direction of the sheet, while biaxial stretching grids are made by continuing to stretch the unidirectional stretching grid in the direction perpendicular to its length.
Due to the rearrangement and orientation of polymer polymers during the heating and elongation process in the manufacturing of plastic geogrids, the bonding force between molecular chains is strengthened, achieving the goal of improving their strength. Its elongation is only 10% to 15% of the original board. If anti-aging materials such as carbon black are added to the geogrid, it will have better durability such as acid resistance, alkali resistance, corrosion resistance and aging resistance.

Construction precautions

1) Firstly, accurately set out the slope line of the roadbed. In order to ensure the width of the roadbed, each side is widened by 0.5m. After leveling the dried base soil, use a 25T vibratory roller to static press twice, and then use a 50T vibratory roller to compact four times. The uneven areas are manually leveled.
(2) Lay 0.3m thick medium (coarse) sand, manually level with machinery, and apply static pressure twice with a 25T vibrating roller.
(3) Lay geogrids. When laying geogrids, the bottom surface should be flat and dense. Generally, it should be laid flat, straightened, not overlapping, and not curled or twisted. The adjacent geogrids should be overlapped by 0.2m, and the overlapping part of the geogrids should be connected with No. 8 iron wire every 1 meter horizontally along the roadbed. U-shaped nails should be fixed to the ground every 1.5-2m on the geogrid laid.
(4) After the first layer of geogrid is laid, start filling the second layer of 0.2m thick medium (coarse) sand. The method is to transport the sand to the construction site and unload it on one side of the roadbed, then use a bulldozer to push forward. First, fill 0.1m within a 2-meter range on both sides of the roadbed, fold the first layer of geogrid up, and then fill 0.1m of medium (coarse) sand. It is prohibited to fill and push both sides towards the middle, and all kinds of machinery are prohibited from filling (coarse) in the unfilled area The passage operation on the sand geogrid can ensure that the geogrid is flat, without bulging or wrinkling. After the second layer of medium (coarse) sand is leveled, horizontal measurement should be carried out to prevent uneven filling thickness. After leveling is correct, static pressure should be applied twice with a 25T vibrating roller.
(5) The construction method for the second layer of geogrid is the same as the first layer, and finally 0.3m of medium (coarse) sand is filled. The filling method is the same as the first layer, and the roadbed base is reinforced by static pressing twice with a 25T roller.
(6) After the third layer of (coarse) sand is compacted, two geogrids are laid longitudinally along the line on both sides of the slope, overlapping by 0.16m, and connected using the same method before starting the earthwork construction work. When laying geogrids for slope protection, the edge lines of each layer must be measured, and each side must ensure that the geogrids are buried 0.10m inside the slope after slope repair.
(7) When filling two layers of soil on the slope geogrid, which is 0.8m thick, a layer of geogrid needs to be laid on both sides simultaneously, and so on, until it is laid under the surface soil of the road shoulder.
(8) After the roadbed is filled, the slope should be repaired in a timely manner, and the dry masonry stone protection at the foot of the slope should be carried out. In addition to widening each side of the roadbed by 0.3m, a settlement of 1.5% should be reserved
