Brucite / Magnesium Hydroxide PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Brucite is called natural magnesium hydroxide, molecular formula is Mg(OH)2,shows itself in white or white gray color.

There are wide applications for brucite, it is not only a kind of high grade refractory materials but also the best material for make magnesium metal.Brucite is a new type of inorganic filling fire retardant,and it is also called the magnesium hydroxide, which is inorganic white powder crushed by brucite lump. It is an important inorganic fire-retardant to reduce and control smoke due to its non-toxic, smokeless and good fire retardant effect. Brucite can be usde as the raw material for making nucleus reactor's protecting material; it can  be used for soil improvement and also regulating PH value .Naturally it can be directly used as raw material for making lightweight magnesium oxide,magnesium oxide and magnesia cement.

Magnesium hydroxide powder is used industrially as a non-hazardous alkali to neutralize acidic wastewaters. It also takes part in the Biorock method of building artificial reefs.

Solid magnesium hydroxide also has smoke suppressing and fire retarding properties. This is due to the endothermic decomposition it undergoes at 332ºC(630 ºF): Mg(OH)2 (s) → MgO (s) + H2O (g)

The heat absorbed by the reaction acts as a retardant by delaying ignition of the associated substance. The water released dilutes any combustible gases and inhibits oxygen from aiding the combustion. Common uses of magnesium hydroxide as a fire retardant include plastics, roofing, and coatings. Other mineral mixtures that are used in similar fire retardant applications are natural mixtures of huntiteand hydromagnesite.
