Description of shower trays

Shower trays, otherwise known as a shower base or shower pan, can vary in size, from compact square shapes to spacious rectangular models and 5-sided designs and are made from a variety of materials such as acrylic, stone resin, SMC, and stone due to the high gloss finish, available in variety of shapes and sizes, excellent thermoforming properties, easy to clean and anti slip features. The type, size and shape of tray you go for will depend entirely on the space you have available but choose the largest you can so that your showering experience is as comfortable as possible.

Material:

1. Acrylic Capped ABS
Acrylic-capped ABS is a co-extruded material that combines the normal ABS characteristics of impact strength and durability with those of PMMA including scratch resistance, aesthetics, and, if necessary, weather ability. Acrylic-capped ABS is easily thermoformed and machined, and is also great for printing.

2. Stone Resin
Stone Resin is a material used by the tile industry to mimic the look of natural stone. It is used for large items like the shower tray you mention as well as various trim items. Stone resin is far cheaper to produce than if the items were made of actual stone. A shower tray of actual stone would start out as a large slab of stone and then would have to be machined and hand carved to the desired shape. The same goes for trim mouldings and accessories like soap dishes, towel bars, tissue holders, and shower shelves. In the case of intricate trim mouldings, each one would have to be hand carved.

Square tray ranges in size typically from about 75cm to 120cm2 and fits best into an alcove or corner.

Pentangle tray, which is a square shape with one corner missing is great if you have a tight corner to fit into since the fact that you enter the shower at one corner allows enough space either side for your toilet and sink.

Rectangle tray which commonly extends to about 120cm long by up to as much as 90cm wide allows you plenty of showering space.

Quadrant tray (a quarter-circle) is ideal if you want to put your shower in the corner of the room and works particularly well with sliding doors.

Offset Quadrant tray is rectangular but with a curved corner at one end.
Walk In tray is slightly different in that it is P-shape with a generous shower area at one end and narrower at the other.
