Rutile is a mineral composed primarily of titanium dioxide, TiO2 and is used:
- As materials to make welding rods.
- In manufacturing paint and ink.
- As raw material in synthetic resin, plastics, synthetic rubber industry: TiO2 has high turbidity and dispersion so it is used in the production of plastics, synthetic resins, in rubber technology and in paper technology. TiO2 is used extensively in the manufacture of automobile and bicycle tires. People use TiO2 as a filler for rubber at a rate of 10% -15%. TiO2 is also used to make rubber tarpaulins. Different types of rubber such as: thin-film rubber, recycled rubber, chlorinated rubber, etc. all use TiO2 as filler. In the TiO2 plastic industry, it is used as a pigment, light-blocking agent, stabilizer in polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC.
- As raw materials in the paper industry (people need to produce high-grade paper with the properties such as: necessary density, smoothness, soft and thin paper surface, additives for paper to achieve smoothness and uniformity, non-reflective with free acids and chlorides in paper, etc., people choose TiO2 as filler. - As raw materials in the leather and fabric industry: TiO2 is color fast so it also requires many titanium compounds in the form of double fluoride titanium and potassium, titanium chloride, oxalattitan, etc. When printing colors on fabric, TiO2 pigment is used to make the product more durable to withstand under the effects of light, sea water, acidic or alkaline environment. TiO2 pigment is used to make chemical fiber dyes in chemical fiber manufacturing industry, leather industry. TiO2 has high thermal and chemical stability, so it is used in the textile industry to produce insulating fibers, tarpaulin, plastic cloth, synthetic silk.
- To produce glass, laboratory equipment instead of Bor compounds with ingredients not exceeding 13%.
