The surface hardness obtained by soft nitriding treatment at 570 C is 700 HV. After 2 hours of treatment, the depth of hardened layer is 0.01 mm.
Hard chromium coated tools must be tempered at 180 C for 4 hours to avoid hydrogen embrittlement.
Grind
Correct grinding technology can avoid cracks and increase die life. After low temperature tempering material, crack sensitivity is very strong during grinding. At this time, the grinding wheel must be repaired. The soft and open grain grinding wheel is suitable. At the same time, adequate lubricant and appropriate circumferential velocity are also important.
polishing
718H has good polishing property. It is usually polished with alumina powder and diamond paste. The steps are as follows:
1. Reserve 0.05 mm after completing the dimension.
2. Polishing with No. 45 diamond paste to obtain a less sharp surface.
3. Repolish with No. 15 diamond paste.
4. Finish the surface with No. 3 or special high grade diamond paste. Each metal has a suitable polishing time, depending on the hardness of the material and polishing technology. Excessive polishing time will produce bark (orange) surface.
