The earliest Banyao kites appeared in the Northem song dynasty, dating back to over 1000years. Banyao kites are huge, as flat as the board and as resounding as the sounding bells, are unique in the world.
Technology of tying Banyao kites is very demanding, i. E. The job must be done in fine and dry days, with the skeleton tied by solid and elastic banboo from southern Chongqing province or local high--quality old bamboo.
Banyao kites are meticulously painted first by means of sketching and then colored painting. Ln content, attention is paid to the portrayal of human figures mostly originated from folk stories, such as "The picture of eight immortals", "Unicorns, phoenixes and peonies" as well as "Stories on deities endowed", standing for prosperity and auspiciousness.
