B. CMC's Function In Toothpaste
1. Good compatibility, can be mixed with various ingredients of toothpaste .

4. Good stability, suitable thickness; can offer toothpaste special comfortable mouthfeel and gloss.

SOLUBILITY OF CMC
CMC is a natural hydrophilic material.  Cellulose gum is probably the fastest gum to hydrate in cold water.
Consequently, it is the gum most like to form lumps when dispersed into water, due to it's rapid swelling in water.
To overcome the problem described above, Three methods are recommended.
Method 1: Direct Addition:
Slowly add the CMC into the water while stirring.
Method 2: Heating
The dissolution rate of the CMC molecule is independent of temperature. When heating is possible, a suitable
(and recommended) temperature to prepare a CMC solution is at about 50-60 °C.
Method 3: Dry Blending
If it is used with other raw materials, it is better to mix the solid together prior to their addition to aqueous systems.
Method 4: Dispersing In A Water Miscible Non-solvent
CMC may be dispersed in glycerin, ethanol, or propylene glycol and the slurry is then added to water.
Application
CMC is an important cellulose ether. It is obtained by chemical modification of natural fiber and is a polyanion compound
with good water-solubility, easily soluble in both cold and hot water, CMC has many unusual and valuable physical
and chemical characteristics such as emulsifying disparity, solid disparity, resistance to decay, being physiologically
harmless etc., and is widely used as a natural macromolecular derivate.
CMC has excellent properties in terms of thickening, water retention, metabolic inertia, membrane forming and shaping
ability, dispersing stability and so on, and can be used as a thickening agent, water-holding agent, adhesive, lubricating
agent, emulsifier, auxiliary suspending agent, tablet base, biological base, biological carrier, etc.
Storage
CMC could easily absorb water.
During storage, care should be taken to ensure that packing sacks are not damaged and to avoid contact with water.
Product should be stored in a dry and ventilated area
kept in a light-proof,well-colsed, dry and cool place
Keep in a cool and dry place.
Protect from sunshine and preserved in tight containers.
Avoid contamination.
