The AD Series phtodetectors are amplified versions of the PD Series. They are also standalone benchtop devices, but are powered by line operated power supplies. The sensitivity of the amplified photodetectors is approximately 16 dB above the corresponding PD models while their pulse response times are less than 450 PS. There are several input options including optical fiber. The electrical output impedance is 50 ohms.
Optical Input options for the ad series
-W...A 4 mm diameter, 0.5 mm thick sapphire window, 2.0 mm above the diode and 2.8 mm below the detector front surface, transparent over the full sensitivity range of the detector
-L...A glass lens with a 4 mm diameter and a focal length of 2.5 mm. This lens is suitable for focusing a collimated of slightly convergent beam onto the diode.
-MM...A 2 meter length of connectorized (ST style) fiber optic cable with graded index communications type fiber. For larger area diodes, 100/140 core/clad fiber with a numerical aperture of 2.9 is used. For smaller area diodes, 50/125 core/clad fiber with a numerical aperture 0.2 is used. Both fibers are suitable for use in singlemode measurements as well.
-SP...A special optical input option.
Power Supply:
The power supply for the APD type detectors has the maximum bias voltage factory set slightly above the photodiode breakdown voltage, (Vb). The bias voltage is externally variable over the range (0.8 to 1.0)Vb. Power supplies for the PIN and PN diodes have a fixed bias voltage. The power supplies are line operated and current limited. The photodetectors have a low frequency cutoff at 10 kHz.
