The distance between the stay (vertical) wires varies from 3" to 6" to 9" to 12". The closer the stays the stronger the fence. Fence with a 6" stay spacing is the most common, however 3" is suited to higher pressurec or higher security areas, whereas 12" can be used in low pressure areas. The fence becomes fully "predator proof" with 3" spacing between the horizontal line wires and 3" spacing between the vertical stay wires. You should look for a fence that suits your budget, but keep in mind changes in your future requirements. Remember you can put cattle behind a deer fence, but not deer behind a cattle fence.
